On its 25th day since release, Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller “Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge,” featuring Ranveer Singh, experienced a slight increase in box office revenue during its fourth Sunday. The film brought in an additional Rs 14.75 crore domestically, marking a small rise compared to the previous day’s earnings of Rs 13.50 crore.
As a result, the film’s total earnings for its fourth weekend have reached Rs 28.20 crore. This figure is significantly lower than the original “Dhurandhar,” which earned Rs 52 crore in India during its fourth weekend. The sequel’s weekend performance also falls short in comparison to its third weekend, which garnered Rs 54.40 crore, its second weekend’s Rs 129.95 crore, and the opening weekend’s impressive Rs 227.85 crore.
According to Sacnilk, the collections over the fourth weekend have provided a much-needed boost for “Dhurandhar 2,” following a disappointing week where daily earnings remained in the single digits, except for a notable Rs 10.10 crore on Tuesday. However, projections indicate that the film may face a significant drop in earnings on its fourth Monday, especially with the release of Shaneil Deo’s action thriller “Dacoit: A Love Story,” featuring Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur, which adds fresh competition.
The total box office collection for “Dhurandhar 2” now stands at Rs 1,083.67 crore, making it the first Hindi film to breach the prestigious Rs 1,000 crore mark in India. It has surpassed the lifetime domestic earnings of SS Rajamouli’s “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion,” which accumulated Rs 1,030.42 crore, positioning “Dhurandhar 2” as the second highest-grossing Indian film in the domestic market.
The sequel is now targeting Sukumar’s upcoming “Pushpa 2: The Rule,” which has a formidable gross of Rs 1,234.10 crore, and is still a few hundred crores away from that benchmark. “Dhurandhar 2” has also eclipsed the lifetime earnings of other major Indian films, such as “RRR” (Rs 782.20 crore), “Kalki 2898 AD” (Rs 646 crore), and “KGF: Chapter 2” (Rs 859.70 crore).
Globally, “Dhurandhar 2” has surpassed the Rs 1,700 crore threshold, ranking it as the fourth highest-grossing Indian film ever, with a total gross of Rs 1,712.98 crore. This includes Rs 415.50 crore from international markets and Rs 1,297.48 crore from the Indian box office. The film has significantly outperformed its predecessor, which earned Rs 1,307.35 crore, and is now nearing “Pushpa 2: The Rule’s” global earnings of Rs 1,742.10 crore, with “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” being the next target at Rs 1,788.06 crore.
“Dhurandhar 2” is also recognized as the second highest-grossing Hindi film worldwide, following Nitesh Tiwari’s “Dangal,” which achieved over Rs 2,000 crore globally. Unlike “Dhurandhar 2,” a substantial portion of “Dangal’s” revenue was generated from its secondary revenue streams, particularly box office sales in China, totaling around Rs 1,300 crore.
Both “Baahubali 2” and “Pushpa 2” have similarly benefited from additional income generated by their Hindi-dubbed versions. In contrast, “Dhurandhar 2” has achieved its remarkable success predominantly through its original Hindi release, accomplishing this feat within just 25 days and without any releases in the Gulf region, a key market for Indian films.
The “Dhurandhar” franchise has now become the first Indian series to exceed the extraordinary Rs 3,000 crore benchmark globally. The initial film, released in December, earned Rs 1,307.25 crore internationally, while the sequel has now crossed the Rs 1,700 crore mark, collectively exceeding Rs 3,000 crore worldwide.
Written and directed by Aditya Dhar, “Dhurandhar 2” is co-produced by B62 Studios, led by Dhar and Lokesh Dhar, along with Jio Studios, headed by Jyoti Deshpande. The film also features a strong supporting cast, including Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun, and follows the long-term mission of an Indian spy (played by Ranveer Singh) to infiltrate a terrorist network in Pakistan.
