Victoria Police have released footage showing the arrest of a 29-year-old man from Shepparton, who is accused of stealing seven vehicles, including a police car.
The man faces multiple charges related to these thefts, which occurred in various locations including northern Victoria and Melbourne. Authorities allege that he stole an unmarked police vehicle as part of this series of crimes.
Today, the accused is set to appear in court, facing charges encompassing vehicle theft, as well as drug and weapons-related offences.
According to police reports, the suspect committed the thefts while on bail, with incidents occurring between March and April. The majority of the stolen vehicles were Kia models.
Notably, a Kia Stinger sedan was reported stolen in Warrandyte on March 22, followed by another Kia Stinger being taken later that same day in Dandenong. Additionally, a Chevrolet utility vehicle was stolen from Kialla on April 7.
On April 10, it is alleged that the man stole a blue Kia Sorento, an unmarked police car, from a dealership located on Benalla Road, along with a Holden Calais taken in Clyde, a suburb of Melbourne.
Further allegations include the theft of a Toyota HiLux during a burglary in Echuca on April 12, and the subsequent theft of a Ford Falcon in Orrvale the following day.
The 29-year-old will be presented in Shepparton Magistrates Court today, facing charges that include motor vehicle theft, drug trafficking involving methylamphetamine, possession of GHB, utilization of Victorian police identification, and committing an indictable offence while on bail.
