The 2026 Met Gala, hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, revolved around the theme of ‘Costume Art.’ The event once again showcased a diverse array of prominent figures from film, fashion, and global culture. Notably, several Indian celebrities graced the occasion, highlighting their heritage, craftsmanship, and modern design on an international stage.
This year marked filmmaker Karan Johar’s first appearance at the Met Gala, positioning him among the notable Indian directors at the event. He donned a bespoke outfit by designer Manish Malhotra, which drew inspiration from the work of renowned artist Raja Ravi Varma. The attire translated Ravi Varma’s artistic vision into high fashion, featuring elegant draping, gold accents, and hand-painted details. Philanthropist Sudha Reddy opted for an outfit inspired by the Tree of Life motif from Kalamkari art. Her ensemble featured intricate zardozi and resham embroidery, embodying symbolic elements of Indian culture. Reddy reflected on her attire, stating that Hyderabad is not only her origin but also a significant part of her identity, which she wished to present on a global platform.
