Rajnath Highlights Op Sindoor as a Benchmark of Technological Combat and India’s Preparedness

On Monday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated that Operation Sindoor exemplifies India’s adeptness in adapting to the changing landscape of warfare and its confident implementation of technological innovations.

During the opening session of the North Tech Symposium, a three-day event organized by the Indian Army’s Northern and Central Commands in collaboration with the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, Singh emphasized the importance of continuous research and the element of surprise to ensure preparedness in this era marked by rapid technological advancements.

The minister praised the armed forces and the defense industry for their thorough assessment of evolving conditions, which has bolstered India’s readiness. He remarked, “Operation Sindoor showcased the bravery and capabilities of our military to the global audience. The operation utilized state-of-the-art indigenous equipment, including sophisticated missile systems like Akashteer, the Akash missile system, and BrahMos.”

Singh further asserted, “This operation stands as undeniable evidence that we not only grasp the changing nature of warfare but also apply technological progress with steadfast confidence.”

Addressing the swift transformations in warfare technology, he noted, “The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has shifted the nature of warfare from traditional tanks and missiles to revolutionary drones and sensors in just three to four years.”

He added that everyday items are increasingly being weaponized, citing recent drone attacks in Lebanon and Syria that have necessitated a reevaluation of contemporary combat strategies. “In light of these developments, we must remain vigilant and prepared,” he stated.

Rajnath underscored the need for a proactive stance and the development of capabilities that would allow India to execute unforeseen strikes if necessary.

He reiterated that the government has prioritized defense research, aiming to advance it further through the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

He introduced a new Transfer of Technology policy, which eliminates the previously imposed 20 percent fee for development-cum-production partners, development partners, and production agencies. “As a consequence, DRDO has transferred over 2,200 technologies to various industrial sectors to date,” he noted.

Additionally, he mentioned that DRDO has initiated a policy that allows Indian industries unrestricted access to its patents, enhancing their technological prowess and competitiveness on a global scale.

“DRDO’s testing facilities are now available to industries on a fee-for-service basis. Each year, numerous companies utilize these facilities for research and development support,” he added.

Singh also pointed out that several defense infrastructure projects have been launched in Uttar Pradesh, including the development of a Defence Industrial Corridor.

Reflecting on his recent trip to Germany, he indicated that international companies are showing a strong interest in forming partnerships with Indian defense manufacturers.

Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of Central Command, and Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, GOC-in-C of Northern Command, also spoke at the event, which featured demonstrations from over 280 companies showcasing their latest innovations and technologies.
