This initiative, named the Counter Terrorism Online Centre, will be co-led by ASIO, Australia’s primary intelligence agency, and the Australian Federal Police. The center will focus on monitoring high-risk online platforms, evaluating threats, and disrupting extremist activities, including executing undercover operations within private chat groups.
Home Affairs Minister has expressed concern regarding the rising trend of online radicalization among young Australians, noting that the process occurs rapidly. The government reported that out of 27 individuals charged with offenses related to violent extremist material since 2024, 15 were teenagers aged 17 or younger.
