IPL 2026 Standings Update: KL Rahul Reclaims Orange Cap as CSK Strengthens Its Position in Sixth Place

As the IPL 2026 season nears its conclusion, the Chennai Super Kings, five-time champions, are regaining their competitive edge. Following their recent performance, CSK now finds itself just three points shy of the league leaders and one victory away from securing a position in the top four, which assures a playoff berth.

In their latest match on Tuesday, CSK triumphed over the Delhi Capitals by eight wickets, successfully chasing down a target of 156 runs with 15 balls remaining at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The IPL 2026 points table has been updated to reflect CSK’s latest win against Delhi Capitals.

Sanju Samson’s impressive performance against the Delhi Capitals propelled him into the top five of the Orange Cap standings. Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma of Sunrisers Hyderabad has lost his leading position to KL Rahul from Delhi, who despite scoring only 12 runs against CSK, has taken over the top spot.

Following the match between Delhi and CSK, there were no changes in the Purple Cap rankings. Anshul Kamboj from CSK did not take any wickets during the game, allowing Bhuvneshwar Kumar to maintain his lead, even though he has played one fewer match than the other top contenders.

Sanju Samson played a pivotal role in CSK’s chase, scoring a solid 87 runs off 52 balls. In his inaugural season with the five-time champions, he has quickly become essential to the team’s success, as noted by captain Ruturaj Gaikwad during the post-match interview.

Samson narrowly missed his third century of the season, falling short by just 13 runs but remained not out at the end of the innings.

“We are fortunate to have Sanju after his outstanding performance in the T20 World Cup. He is our backbone,” Gaikwad remarked following the comfortable win.

Samson attributed his batting success to a calm demeanor. “Honestly, this is just how I am. You might perceive me as calm because you see me more in the middle now, but I maintain that composure consistently,” he explained.

He acknowledged that achieving a century would have required a degree of selfishness, stating, “While hundreds are special and I had that desire, winning the game is my priority. My partner was performing well, and securing the victory is what brings me more confidence and joy. There are more matches ahead; hopefully, another century will come soon.”
