Iran has asserted that the United States has not succeeded in its aims regarding the so-called “Freedom Project,” following an announcement from President Donald Trump that he would be halting operations in the Strait of Hormuz amid ongoing diplomatic discussions.
In a report by INSA, a government-controlled media outlet, Tehran indicated that Trump’s decision to suspend the mission came after Iran issued strong warnings and took a firm stance. On Tuesday, Trump announced a temporary halt to “Project Freedom,” highlighting what he described as “great progress” towards a comprehensive deal with Iran.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump remarked, “Significant progress has been made towards a complete and final agreement with Iranian representatives.” He continued, “At the request of Pakistan and other nations, and considering the substantial military successes achieved during our campaign against Iran, we have mutually agreed to pause Project Freedom, which involves the movement of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, for a short duration to explore the possibility of finalizing and signing the agreement while maintaining the blockade.”
Following Trump’s comments, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the conclusion of “Operation Epic Fury,” stating that the operation had met its objectives. He emphasized, “Operation Epic Fury is concluded. We have achieved the goals we set out to accomplish. We do not seek further conflict; our preference is for a peaceful resolution. What Trump desires is a deal, but thus far, Iran has not taken that path.”
Discussing Project Freedom, Rubio explained that the operation aimed to assist nearly 23,000 civilians from 87 nations who found themselves stranded in the Persian Gulf. “This is not an offensive operation; rather, it is defensive in nature. This means there will be no fire unless we are attacked first. We are not initiating attacks, but we must respond if we are targeted or if a ship is threatened,” Rubio stated.
