Iran evaluates American offer as Trump suggests a potential resolution to conflict is near.

Iran is currently assessing a new proposal for peace put forth by the United States, which President Donald Trump claims has the potential to conclude the ongoing conflict and facilitate the reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz. However, an official from Iran has expressed skepticism regarding the likelihood of an imminent agreement, characterizing the proposal as an American “wish list” and cautioning that the U.S. would not achieve its goals through a failed military campaign.

Reports from unnamed U.S. officials suggest that the White House believes it is nearing an agreement with Iran. This proposal reportedly includes a one-page memorandum aimed at ending hostilities and establishing a framework for future discussions regarding nuclear negotiations. This development follows Trump’s decision to temporarily halt American military operations intended to secure shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz.

On Tuesday night, U.S. time, President Trump announced the suspension of “Project Freedom” to facilitate negotiations with Iran, confirming that a ceasefire remains in effect. The following morning, he stated that military operations in Iran would cease if “Iran agrees to what has been agreed to, which may be a considerable assumption.” He added, “If they don’t agree, the bombing starts, and it will be, sadly, at a much higher level and intensity than it was before,” in a post on Truth Social.

Conflicting accounts have emerged regarding the status of the negotiations. Reuters cited two anonymous sources who confirmed that the 14-point memorandum is under consideration. Pakistan is acting as a mediator in these discussions, with a source from the country indicating, “We will close this very soon. We are getting close.”

However, Iranian parliament member Ebrahim Rezaei, a spokesman for the foreign policy and national security committee, commented on the social media platform X, stating, “Axios’ text is Americans’ wish list until it becomes reality. Americans will not obtain through a failed war what they failed to gain in face-to-face negotiations.” He further warned that if the U.S. does not “surrender and grant the necessary concessions,” Iran would respond vigorously.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, who is currently visiting China, indicated that Tehran is seeking a “fair and comprehensive agreement” without directly addressing Trump’s statements. An Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson noted that Iran would communicate its response to the proposal soon through Pakistan, as reported by Iranian state media.
