Perth Enveloped in Dense Smoke, Residents Advised to Exercise Caution

Perth experienced a significant smoke haze during the afternoon rush hour due to a controlled burn conducted in the eastern outskirts of the city.

A public advisory was released shortly before 2 PM, warning residents throughout the metropolitan area about the smoky conditions. The source of the smoke is attributed to a planned burn located to the southeast of Mundaring.

Expectations are for the smoke to dissipate by Thursday morning. Currently, the air quality index remains classified as ‘good’; however, certain neighborhoods, including South Lake, Quinns Rocks, and Duncraig, are starting to experience a decline in air quality.

Residents in areas such as Applecross and the Perth CBD have reported the presence of ash falling. Additionally, ABC radio listeners mentioned a dense layer of smoke in Fremantle, while another listener from Victoria Park noticed the haze settling in.

Authorities recommend that individuals living in affected regions close their windows and doors and turn off air conditioning units. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has advised those with asthma or other pre-existing respiratory or cardiovascular conditions to adhere to their established treatment plans.
