Two officers from the Amrutahalli police station in Bengaluru were assaulted by a group of four men during a nighttime patrol on May 1, officials reported on Wednesday. In connection with this incident, authorities have detained two engineering students from another state.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. near Akashavani Layout, where constables Rudrappa M Hanumar and Hanumantha Alagundi discovered the four men engaging in public drinking. When the officers instructed them to leave the area, one of the men reportedly began to verbally abuse them.

As the constables attempted to manage the situation, the group launched an attack on them. The complaint details that the assailants pulled the officers, ripped their uniforms, and inflicted injuries on their faces and bodies using punches and kicks. Additionally, one of the officers was reportedly subjected to an attempted strangulation.

The suspects allegedly stole the keys from the police vehicle before escaping in a car. The officers were unable to record the vehicle’s registration number but expressed confidence in their ability to identify the attackers.

Both constables sought medical attention and subsequently filed a complaint. Following this, the police opened a case against four unidentified individuals, invoking sections 121 (voluntarily causing harm to a public servant), 132 (assault or use of criminal force to prevent a public servant from performing their duties), and 304 (theft-related offences) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Authorities are actively pursuing the remaining two suspects involved in the assault on the officers.
