Law firm parts ways with partner accused of sexually assaulting his underage daughter

A law firm has reportedly dismissed a partner who is under investigation by the Mumbai Police for alleged sexual assault against his minor daughter. This decision was confirmed by sources within the firm, stating that the termination was effective immediately.

The accused individual was granted anticipatory bail by a special court in Mumbai on March 16, which determined that the investigation could proceed without his arrest. However, the mother of the minor has appealed to the Bombay High Court to revoke this pre-arrest bail, and the case is pending a hearing.

An FIR was lodged against the accused on February 2, based on a complaint from his wife. The charges fall under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and allege that he sexually assaulted their six-year-old daughter. Following this, the accused sought anticipatory bail, arguing that the allegations stemmed from an ongoing matrimonial dispute, suggesting that the complaint was filed as he was preparing to pursue custody of their daughters. The FIR indicated that the alleged incident became known in December 2025, raising questions regarding the two-month delay in filing the report.

The mother of the victim expressed in court that the situation is grave, highlighting the trauma experienced by the child, who required counseling to communicate effectively. The court acknowledged the severity of the allegations but noted that the accused had not been apprehended since the FIR’s filing and characterized the matter as a family issue.

On February 17, the court provided interim protection against arrest, and eventually granted anticipatory bail on March 16, emphasizing that the investigation could continue without the necessity of his detention. The court also remarked that the underlying matrimonial conflicts between the accused and the child’s mother would be addressed during the trial.

Additionally, the victim’s mother has reached out to various authorities, including the National Commission of Women, claiming that her attempts to report the matter to the police were met with resistance on three separate occasions.

According to an officer involved in the case, a chargesheet has already been filed following the investigation, and a supplementary chargesheet will be submitted as the inquiry progresses.
