The Shri GS Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS) in Madhya Pradesh, a government-supported engineering institution, is set to launch a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) program in Civil Engineering conducted in Hindi starting from the academic year 2026-27.
According to officials, students enrolling in this four-year program will receive a financial reward of Rs 2 lakh during their final year of study.
SGSITS, which was founded in 1952 and operates autonomously, currently offers 90 positions in its Civil Engineering program taught in English. The introduction of the Hindi medium course will add 30 more seats, bringing the total enrollment capacity to 120 students.
Inder Singh Parmar, the State Technical Education Minister and head of the institute’s governing body, referred to this initiative as a “historic step” aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for students from various backgrounds while promoting technical education in their native language.
To facilitate this initiative, SGSITS has dedicated the last four years to translating AICTE-approved textbooks into Hindi and organizing workshops to equip faculty with skills in bilingual instruction.
Despite acknowledging the hurdles associated with offering technical education in Hindi, such as the scarcity of study materials and the previous underperformance of a Hindi-medium BTech Biomedical course, officials remain optimistic that the new Civil Engineering program will attract a broader range of students.
