Snack blends pulled from shelves over potential Salmonella risk

An Illinois-based food manufacturer is initiating a recall of several snack items amid potential salmonella contamination concerns, as stated in a notice from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The recall includes nut mixes and a corn mix produced by John B. Sanfilippo and Son, which are marketed under the brands Southern Style Nuts, Fisher, Squirrel Brand, and Good & Gather.

The Good & Gather product, which features a trail mix inspired by Mexican street corn, was available at Target, while the other products were distributed through various retail outlets, online platforms, and QVC, according to the FDA’s announcement.

The affected snack mixes include dry milk powder that had been previously recalled by another company, California Dairies. The FDA noted that the seasoning was tested for salmonella prior to its incorporation into the products, and John B. Sanfilippo and Son has taken the step of recalling these items as a precaution.

The FDA advised consumers who have purchased the affected products to refrain from consuming them and to return the items to the point of sale for a full refund or exchange.

Salmonella is a bacterial infection that can be transmitted through contaminated food or water. It poses serious health risks, especially to young children, pregnant women, older adults, and individuals with compromised immune systems.

Below is a list of the products that are part of the recall.
