In a tragic incident in Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh, two individuals, including a child, lost their lives, while four others are currently unaccounted for after a boat capsized in the Yamuna River. Local authorities reported that three individuals were successfully rescued, and a search operation is actively ongoing.

The event unfolded on Wednesday evening in the Kutubpur Patiya village located in the Kurara region, as reported by PTI. The group was returning from a river island where they had purchased cucumbers and muskmelons when their boat capsized around 7 PM.

The boat operator, identified as Dheeru, managed to save three passengers: Vishnu, Rinku, and Parul. However, the police stated that four others are still missing, including children. Specifically, those unaccounted for include Akanksha (9), Rani (9), Brijrani (25), Labhyansh (5), Mahesh (6), and Aditya (11).

By Thursday, rescue teams had recovered the bodies of Akanksha and Brijrani. District Magistrate Abhishek Goyal confirmed that search efforts are being conducted by teams from both the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

Rajesh Yash, the Deputy Inspector General for the Banda Division, mentioned that local villagers routinely cross the river by boat. He noted that at around 8:30 PM, officials were alerted to the capsizing incident involving nine individuals. While three managed to swim to safety, six remain missing, among them one woman and five children aged between 5 to 15 years. Both SDRF and flood rescue teams are currently on-site, alongside police and district officials.

In response to the tragedy, Manoj Prajapati, a local BJP MLA, announced that compensation would be provided to the families affected by the incident according to established protocols, and a report will be submitted to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
