CFA Society Sri Lanka Celebrates 25 Years of Excellence on the CSE Trading Floor

The CFA Society Sri Lanka (CFASSL) celebrated its 25th anniversary earlier this week by initiating the Market Opening Bell at the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) and unveiling a commemorative cover and stamp. This event highlighted the Society’s significant contributions to the evolution of the investment profession and the financial services sector in Sri Lanka over the past quarter of a century. The Postmaster General of Sri Lanka also participated in the issuance ceremony of the commemorative items.

Founded in 2001, CFA Society Sri Lanka is a member of the global CFA Institute network, committed to fostering professional growth and advancement among CFA charterholders and candidates in the country. The Society boasts a membership of more than 250 professionals, including chief executives, chief financial officers, portfolio managers, equity analysts, banking experts, investment advisors, and other senior figures in finance. Additionally, it supports around 500 candidates who are currently enrolled in the CFA Program.

CFASSL actively promotes the esteemed CFA Program in Sri Lanka, along with other qualifications from the CFA Institute, such as the CFA Institute Certificate in Sustainable Investing. The Society undertakes a variety of initiatives, including hosting the local stage of the CFA Institute Research Challenge, which recently completed its 19th consecutive year in 2025, as well as the CFA Society Sri Lanka Capital Market Awards. It also engages in public financial literacy campaigns in collaboration with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE), delivered in all three national languages. Furthermore, the Society has been instrumental in promoting sustainable finance through industry workshops and seminars.

During the anniversary celebration, Ms. Rashmi Peiris Paranavitane, CFA, the President of CFA Society Sri Lanka, expressed, “The opportunity to ring the opening bell at the Colombo Stock Exchange to mark our 25th anniversary is a significant achievement for our Society. It reflects the remarkable progress of the investment profession in Sri Lanka over the last two decades. As we honor this milestone, our Society reaffirms its dedication to maintaining high ethical standards, nurturing future professionals, and fostering the ongoing development of a transparent and resilient capital market and finance industry in Sri Lanka.”

CFASSL maintains a strong partnership with the CSE, which has been a Platinum Partner for the last eight years. Mr. Dimuthu Abeyesekera, the Chairman of the CSE, congratulated CFA Society Sri Lanka on this important anniversary, acknowledging the Society’s essential role in enhancing professionalism, ethical standards, investment knowledge, and excellence within the financial services sector. He highlighted that through its commitment to education, thought leadership, and professional development, the Society has made a significant contribution to strengthening the country’s capital market ecosystem and wished it continued success in inspiring leadership and service to the investment community in the years to come.

The launch of the commemorative cover and stamp was officiated by the Sri Lanka Philatelic Bureau, marking a memorable occasion for CFA Society Sri Lanka.
