Sri Lanka is eager to participate in the initiatives of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), as expressed by Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath during a meeting with an SCO delegation.
The delegation, led by SCO Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev, engaged in discussions with Herath on Wednesday. The primary focus of the meeting was to explore avenues for enhancing Sri Lanka’s involvement with the SCO and to strengthen partnerships with member states in several critical sectors, including tourism, transportation, logistics, and agriculture.
Herath articulated Sri Lanka’s strong interest in becoming more integrated with SCO initiatives, emphasizing the potential for investment in the Port City and Free Trade Zones. He also sought the Secretary-General’s assistance in promoting Sri Lanka as a premier destination for tourism and investment.
