Yogi Urges Timely Infrastructure Completion Before Elections, Cautions PWD Officials on Delays

As Uttar Pradesh prepares for elections in the upcoming year, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath convened a meeting on Wednesday, instructing relevant officials to adhere to strict timelines and maintain high standards of quality in various development initiatives. He emphasized that elected officials should not be held accountable for “departmental shortcomings” or “contractor errors.”

During a video conference with district magistrates, ministers, and local representatives, Adityanath reviewed the Public Works Department’s action plan for the financial year 2026-27. He requested that all districts submit their development proposals within a week, allowing the government to finalize the action plan by the first week of June.

The Chief Minister insisted that development proposals should be tailored to meet local needs and developed in consultation with public representatives. He mandated that ceremonial events for project inaugurations, such as ‘bhoomi pujan’ and foundation stone laying ceremonies, should be led exclusively by the respective elected officials.

In a clear message to the officials as election season approaches, Adityanath stated that the responsibility for ensuring quality construction and timely project completion rests with departmental officers. He reiterated that public representatives should not be penalized for failures in the department or mistakes made by contractors.

Highlighting the importance of infrastructure and connectivity as essential for economic development, the Chief Minister noted that roads, bridges, and transit routes serve not only as transportation means but also as vital components for trade, job creation, and social progress.

He instructed officials to refrain from a selective approach in project selection, advocating for equitable development across all districts. Furthermore, he directed district magistrates and chief development officers to assign nodal officers for each project to oversee progress and uphold quality standards. Regular reviews of previously approved projects were also mandated, alongside requests for timely progress reports from the departments.

Dedicated teams from the Public Works Department will carry out site inspections and independent evaluations of projects throughout the districts.

In terms of disaster readiness, Adityanath called for the construction of helipads in proximity to every block, tehsil, and district headquarters, emphasizing their importance during natural disasters, medical emergencies, and other crises. He also tasked the Public Works Department with establishing a maintenance system and a standardized fee structure for the helipads.

Addressing challenges posed by global market fluctuations affecting fuel and bitumen supply, the Chief Minister encouraged the adoption of innovative technologies in road construction. He specifically directed officials to focus on cement-treated sub-base and base technologies to lessen bitumen usage and enhance road durability.

Additionally, he instructed that concrete roads be constructed on rural routes extending up to two kilometers where necessary.

Commending the Urban Development Department’s ‘CM Grid’ initiative aimed at enhancing urban connectivity, Adityanath urged for its expedited implementation to improve road infrastructure in all towns.

Officials reported to the Chief Minister that over 30,000 proposals from 17 departmental sectors had already been submitted for the financial year 2026-27. Following the review meeting, Adityanath instructed the departments to prioritize these proposals and implement them systematically and within designated timelines.
