The Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026 Player Draft was successfully held in Colombo, marking a significant step in the preparation for the sixth season of Sri Lanka’s leading T20 franchise competition, organized by IPG Group.
Franchise owners, team officials, cricket administrators, and other key figures gathered to finalize their rosters for the upcoming tournament. With a robust selection of both local and international talent available in the draft, LPL 2026 is anticipated to be a fiercely competitive event, showcasing seasoned players, rising stars, and a diverse array of T20 experience from various regions.
The successful execution of the draft highlights the ongoing development of the Lanka Premier League as a reputable cricket and entertainment entity. It also reflects the increasing trust of franchise owners and athletes in the tournament’s framework, commercial viability, and its potential to enhance the cricketing landscape in Sri Lanka.
The five participating franchises—SC Jaffna Kings, Galle Gallants, Kandy Royals, Colombo Kaps, and Dambulla Sixers—are now set to proceed with further preparations for the tournament. This includes planning their rosters, strategizing team dynamics, integrating players, engaging with fans, and activating commercial initiatives ahead of the season.
Hon. Sunil Kumara Gamage, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, expressed his support for the progress made during the draft, stating, “The Lanka Premier League plays a crucial role in creating opportunities for Sri Lankan cricketers and enhancing professional cricket, while positioning Sri Lanka as a prime location for international sports events.
