Numerous individuals within the film industry have characterized filmmaker Anurag Kashyap as a challenging collaborator. In a recent discussion, actor-turned-producer Nikhil Dwivedi, who is preparing for the release of his film “Bandar,” acknowledged that Kashyap’s intense passion can sometimes make him difficult to work with.
During an interview with Vickey Lalwani, Nikhil recounted how he approached Anurag to review the script for “Bandar.” He stated, “I had the script written by Sudip and sent it to Anurag for his feedback. After reading it, he called me and insisted that he would be the one to direct. He selected me; I didn’t choose him. He is indeed a challenging director, driven by his strong convictions. My writers share a similar passion for their beliefs, as do I. When passionate individuals collaborate on a project, it’s natural for them to engage in discussions about the film’s creative elements, which I consider a positive aspect.”
Nikhil elaborated, “It’s important to recognize that differing viewpoints aren’t inherently negative; they simply represent different perspectives. We engaged in passionate discussions from the start to the finish of the project. Ultimately, the director had the final say on the film’s conclusion. While I had a preference for an alternative ending, Anurag was adamant about his vision, stating, ‘No way.’ That’s part of the creative process. He insisted that this would be the only conclusion. The debates continued until the end, and I made numerous attempts to persuade him. Sudip is also passionate but tends to be more reserved in his communication.”
In a previous interview, Nikhil had alluded to working on a film that many advised him against, which he clarified was “Bandar.” He expressed, “It was indeed ‘Bandar.’ We are approaching the release now. Some believe that the project is controversial, but I had confidence in the subject matter and the team involved. Everyone had faith in it, which is why we were able to bring this film to fruition.”
He further addressed the misconceptions surrounding “Bandar,” particularly the unfounded claims that it is an ‘anti-women’ film. “People who are not familiar with the subject often jump to the conclusion that it might be anti-women. This is not the case. We would never create such a film.”
“Bandar” features prominent actors Bobby Deol, Sanya Malhotra, Sapna Pabbi, and Saba Azad in significant roles. The film is scheduled for release in theaters worldwide on June 5.
