Over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday, more than 50 individuals residing in the Gota ward of the city received medical attention for symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting, which were reportedly linked to the consumption of contaminated water, according to local officials.

Reports indicate that nine residential complexes in the vicinity were impacted due to a leak in the drinking water and drainage systems near Jantanagar Cross Road.

Officials from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) noted that 40 health teams were deployed to carry out disease prevention measures at the affected sites. Additionally, a thorough house-to-house survey was conducted by health officials in all the impacted societies. Residents were provided with chlorine tablets for water purification, they stated. Mayor Hitesh Barot also visited the residents who were affected by the situation.

“After we were informed about the occurrences of diarrhoea and vomiting in Akanksha Flat, Navratna Flat, and Tridev Society, located near Sattadhar Bridge in the Sola area of Gota Ward, a team comprising medical and paramedical personnel from the Health Department, alongside staff from the Engineering Department of AMC, promptly arrived at the scene and initiated several disease prevention measures,” AMC officials shared with the media.

“Repair work was carried out on the damaged drainage line at a nearby junction; however, during this process, there was an unintentional supply of mixed water to the surrounding areas. Consequently, cleaning efforts have commenced for the water tanks in the affected societies. A medical van at Akanksha Apartment has provided outpatient treatment to 50 patients, all of whom are currently stable,” stated municipal chief Banchhanidhi Pani.
