Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to inaugurate and commence major infrastructure projects valued at ₹18,000 crore in Surat tomorrow.

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate and lay the groundwork for a series of development initiatives valued at over ₹18,000 crore during his visit to Surat, as stated in an official announcement.

The projects encompass four National Highway initiatives in South Gujarat, along with two segments of the Vadodara–Mumbai Expressway that will be initiated.

Among the notable ventures are eight projects from the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), totaling ₹1,063.43 crore, which aim to enhance industrial infrastructure and environmental management in South Gujarat.

The focus of these initiatives is to improve connectivity and significantly stimulate economic growth within the state, as highlighted in the communiqué.

The Vadodara–Mumbai Expressway (Packages VI and VII), built at a cost of ₹7,689 crore, includes an extensive network of major and minor bridges, railway bridges, flyovers, and vehicle underpasses. The construction features 70 underpasses and two interchanges designed to enhance local connectivity and facilitate smoother transit for commuters. The activation of this eight-lane corridor is anticipated to considerably improve regional connectivity.

Furthermore, the commissioning of these sections is expected to enhance freight transportation along the Delhi–Mumbai expressway, thereby lowering logistics expenses for local industries, which aligns with the Bharatamala Project’s goals.

In addition, foundation stones will be laid for projects worth ₹4,732 crore across four NHAI routes. These projects include the four-laning of NH-56 (Package 4) from Dhamasia to Bitada/Movi, the four-laning of NH-56 (Package 6) from Nasarpore to Malotha, a six-lane vehicle underpass (Reliance), and a VUP-cum-flyover at Kawas on the Surat–Hazira section of NH-53.

The upgrades to the Dhamasia–Bitada and Nasarpore–Malotha sections of NH-56 are expected to enhance access to the Statue of Unity and the tribal districts of Narmada, Tapi, Valsad, and Chhota Udepur.

This 107.67 km corridor is projected to cut travel time by approximately 40 minutes and boost average vehicle speeds by nearly 75%. It will connect pharmaceutical and medical clusters, fishing and seafood sectors, tribal areas, and vital logistics hubs, including an airport, two railway stations, and two ports.

Additionally, two projects totaling ₹149 crore will be initiated on the Hazira Port–Surat section of National Highway 53. These will include a six-lane flyover and a vehicle underpass to facilitate the smooth flow of heavy goods traffic towards Hazira Port and the surrounding industrial regions.

In terms of infrastructure enhancements in Bharuch and Valsad, out of the eight GIDC projects being launched, Bharuch will receive six initiatives worth ₹894 crore, while Valsad will benefit from two projects valued at ₹169 crore. These efforts aim to bolster infrastructure, effluent management systems, and drainage solutions in South Gujarat’s industrial zones.

Bharuch has become a significant center for the chemical and petrochemical sectors. At the Dahej PCPIR (Petroleum, Chemicals, and Petrochemicals Investment Region), a 90 MLD capacity offshore and onshore effluent disposal pipeline has been established from the Saykha Pumping Station to the Dahej landfall point.

This project encompasses the design, construction, testing, and commissioning of civil structures, electromechanical components, and PLC-SCADA systems, along with five years of operation and maintenance (O&M).

Currently, more than 1,000 industrial units are functioning in this area.

Moreover, essential infrastructure such as roads, a stormwater drainage network, and a central drain have been developed at the Bulk Drug Park in Jambusar, Bharuch.

The Prime Minister is also expected to inaugurate a 30 MLD drainage pumping station for the Dahej-2 Industrial Estate. This undertaking includes a 30 MLD capacity drainage pumping station with a rising main connecting the Suva Pumping Station to the Final Pumping Station at Z-93 in the Dahej-2 Industrial Estate.

In Valsad’s Sarigam, the Prime Minister will launch the upgraded Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP), which has increased its capacity from 15 MLD to 25 MLD.

Additionally, an HDPE onshore and offshore outfall pipeline, along with a sump and pumping station, has been constructed in the Sarigam Industrial Estate.
