The University of Sri Jayewardenepura held a formal ceremony on May 25, 2026, in the Senate Boardroom to launch the second edition of the Value Masters competition, marking Sri Lanka’s leading inter-university equity valuation challenge.
This event was organized by the Students’ Association of Finance (SAF) from the Department of Finance within the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce (FMSC), in partnership with the CFA Society Sri Lanka and Acuity Analytics. The competition aims to strengthen the ties between academic institutions and the finance sector.
The ceremony was attended by educators, finance industry experts, and undergraduate participants from 42 teams representing 10 universities, which included 38 teams from public institutions and 4 from private ones. This turnout underscores the increasing recognition of Value Masters as a significant venue for fostering analytical skills and professional development.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Neelangie Nanayakkara, the Head of the Department of Finance, reaffirmed the department’s dedication to academic excellence and expressed appreciation to the CFA Society Sri Lanka and Acuity Analytics for their ongoing partnership and support.
Prof. Dushan Jayawickrama, Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, spoke about the vital role of analytical skills and practical knowledge in preparing future finance professionals.
Insights into the changing financial landscape were shared by Ms. Rashmi Peiris Paranavitane, President of CFA Society Sri Lanka, along with Mr. Nuwan Jayawardana, Director and Head of Buy-Side Research at Acuity Analytics, and Mr. Pranavan Premarajah, Associate Director at the same firm. They discussed the increasing impact of AI technologies, the necessity for research expertise, and the importance of adaptability in today’s finance industry.
The event also featured Mr. Aruna Alwis, CEO of CFA Society Sri Lanka, who added to the significance of the occasion.
A key moment of the ceremony was the unveiling of the Value Masters 2026 case study, which officially kicked off this year’s competition. After the Mini Case Study Challenge, qualifying teams will advance to the Equity Valuation Report phase, benefiting from training sessions and mentorship provided by Acuity Analytics. The finalists will compete in the Grand Finale scheduled for July 2026.
The winners of Value Masters 2025 reflected on the valuable experiences and learning opportunities they encountered during the competition.
The top three teams will receive cash prizes of Rs. 100,000, Rs. 75,000, and Rs. 50,000, respectively.
As the second edition of Value Masters gets underway, it remains committed to being a national platform that promotes analytical skills, strategic thinking, and professional development for the upcoming generation of finance professionals in Sri Lanka.
