Bengaluru Tech Professional Discovers Stressed Coworkers; Whoop Tracker Experiment Gains Popularity

A technology professional based in Bengaluru is gaining attention for an unconventional and engaging office experiment that utilized fitness data to pinpoint which colleagues induced the highest levels of stress during meetings.

Pankaj, the individual behind this innovative approach, took to social media platform X to disclose that he synchronized his Whoop fitness tracker with his work calendar. He meticulously analyzed his heart rate variations throughout work-related calls. By correlating minute-by-minute heart rate fluctuations with scheduled meetings and the list of participants, he was able to uncover intriguing insights.

Through this analysis, Pankaj identified specific calls that corresponded with notable increases in his heart rate, effectively creating a ranking of colleagues based on how much their presence seemed to elevate his stress levels. In his post, he stated, “I connected my Whoop device to my work calendar to determine which coworker causes me the most stress. With the help of Fable, I reverse-engineered Whoop to extract per-minute heart rates and matched the spikes to call events and attendees. Now, I have a leaderboard that I consider daily. Some information has been obscured for privacy reasons,” Pankaj shared on X.

The post quickly gained popularity, amassing nearly seven million views and over 33,000 likes. One user remarked, “Interesting concept, but there are variables to consider. For instance, one meeting might be held on a different floor, another could follow a sugary snack, and yet another might occur after a long gap since the last meal while working on tedious tasks.”

Another user added, “That’s fascinating, and you should definitely inform them. If they knew, they might alter their behavior.” A third commenter noted, “That’s quite impressive. You might find the ‘liveness’ of the Google Fitbit air to be superior to Whoop. Consider giving it a try next.”
