FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – The Colombo Stock Exchange in Sri Lanka experienced a decline on Thursday, as indicated by CSE statistics, with the key All Share Price Index (ASPI) dropping by 0.89 percent.
The ASPI decreased by 191.45 points, settling at 21,270.02, while the S&P SL20 index, which is more representative of liquid stocks, fell by 0.77 percent, equivalent to a loss of 46.11 points, bringing it to 5,939.31.
Among the stocks that positively influenced the ASPI were Ambeon Holdings, which rose by 6.54 percent to reach 39.10 rupees, Melstacorp, gaining 0.71 percent to close at 178.50 rupees, and Asiri Surgical Hospital, which surged by 20.00 percent to 0.60 rupees.
Conversely, the leading stocks that negatively impacted the index included DFCC Bank, which saw a decline of 2.14 percent to 125.50 rupees, Commercial Bank of Ceylon, down 0.75 percent to 199.00 rupees, Dialog Axiata, which fell by 1.14 percent to 43.50 rupees, and National Development Bank, decreasing by 1.82 percent to 107.75 rupees.
The overall market turnover reached 1.67 billion rupees, with the capital goods sector contributing the most at 444.3 million rupees.
In corporate news, Asia Asset Finance announced its intention to raise 1.5 billion rupees via a rights issue, offering four new ordinary voting shares for every 11 shares currently held. The company plans to issue a total of 45,162,012 shares at a price of 33.30 rupees per share, aiming to secure 1,503,894,999.60 rupees.
Following this announcement, shares of Asia Asset Finance rose by 2.42 percent, closing at 55.10 rupees.
