On Wednesday morning in Los Angeles, the nominees for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards were revealed, with HBO Max’s “Hacks” achieving a remarkable milestone by receiving the highest number of nominations ever for a comedy series in a single year.

This season, “Hacks” garnered a total of 24 nominations, surpassing the previous record of 23 held by “The Bear” and “The Studio” from last year. “The Bear” was also recognized as a leading nominee in the comedy categories this year, alongside other series such as “Shrinking,” “Margo’s Got Money Troubles,” and “Widow’s Bay.”

In the drama category, HBO Max’s second season of “The Pitt” and the debut series “Pluribus” from Apple TV+ received numerous nominations, along with Netflix’s “The Diplomat” and HBO Max’s “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” and “The Gilded Age.” “The Pitt” stood out as the leading drama nominee with an impressive total of 25 nominations.

Jason Bateman received four nominations for various projects, while six individuals—Quinta Brunson, Paul W. Downs, Matthew Rhys, Jason Segel, Martin Short, and Noah Wyle—each secured three nominations.

The announcement of the nominations was made by recent Emmy winners Liza Colón-Zayas and Jeff Hiller at the Television Academy in Los Angeles.

The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony is set to air live on NBC on Sunday, September 14, with actress Mariska Hargitay serving as the host. The event will also be available for streaming on Peacock.
