After a hiatus of twenty-four years since the last appearance of Staines’s iconic political figure in the film “Ali G Indahouse,” Ali G is poised to make a comeback in theaters.

According to The InSneider, production on a new film has recently concluded, with filming taking place in locations such as Oxfordshire—where actor Sacha Baron Cohen was seen in character last summer—and various sites across the United States. Details regarding the film’s title and release date remain unspecified, and representatives for Cohen have chosen not to comment further.

The speculation surrounding Ali G’s return began in 2023; however, progress on the project faced delays due to the wave of writers’ and actors’ strikes in the United States.

Ali G, characterized by his distinctive shellsuit and a penchant for cultural appropriation as a member of the West Staines Massive, made his debut on Channel 4’s “The 11 O’Clock Show” in 1998, where he was hailed as the “voice of da yoof.” The character subsequently received his own show in the early 2000s. Although Baron Cohen announced the retirement of both Ali G and Borat—his Kazakh television presenter who starred in the immensely popular 2006 film—in 2007, both characters have made comebacks.

“Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” premiered in 2020, and Ali G has made notable appearances, including at the 2012 British Comedy Awards, in the show “Ali G: Rezurection,” and during the 2016 Oscars.

The forthcoming Ali G film has been produced under wraps, akin to the secrecy surrounding both “Borat” and the 2009 film “Brüno,” which featured an Austrian fashion icon. This new installment is anticipated to include interviews with unwitting commentators. Previous interviews conducted by Ali G have involved perplexed figures such as Newt Gingrich and an irate Tony Benn.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s extensive filmography also encompasses notable works such as “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” for which he received an Oscar nomination, as well as “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” “The Dictator,” “Hugo,” “Les Misérables,” and the “Madagascar” film series.
