On Wednesday, Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (SP), met with Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde at his official office located within the legislative premises. This meeting followed Pawar’s participation in a significant committee session regarding the border dispute between Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Pawar’s visit has sparked rumors about potential political shifts within the NCP (SP), with reports suggesting that certain party leaders are urging the leadership to make a decision about joining the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
According to Shinde’s office, the meeting was conducted in a friendly atmosphere, and both leaders agreed that, despite their political differences, it is essential to maintain open channels of communication on issues that affect the state’s interests.
During the earlier committee meeting on the Maharashtra-Karnataka border issue, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reaffirmed the Maharashtra government’s commitment to supporting the Marathi-speaking population in the border area. He emphasized that the government will continue to advocate for their rightful claims and protect their legitimate rights.
Fadnavis revealed plans to appoint senior legal experts to expedite the Supreme Court hearings concerning the border dispute, as well as to provide legal support to Marathi individuals dealing with various legal challenges in Karnataka.
He also mentioned that the government is prepared to act on all recommendations and unresolved issues brought up by the committee.
Furthermore, comprehensive information regarding the Linguistic Minorities Commission will be gathered and distributed to all Maharashtra Members of Parliament to ensure the matter can be effectively addressed in Parliament.
The meeting included several high-ranking officials, including Pawar, Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, Lok Sabha MP Narayan Rane, Minister for Higher and Technical Education Chandrakant Patil, Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai, and Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif.
