On Tuesday, authorities in Bengaluru charged six individuals, including five minors, for allegedly blocking an ambulance’s route while engaging in hazardous motorcycle stunts on Tumakuru Road during the early hours of July 4.
The incident reportedly took place around 2:30 AM near MEI Junction, in proximity to Yeshwanthpur Railway Station. According to the complaint, the suspects performed wheelies and rode recklessly, obstructing an ambulance that was transporting a critically ill patient to the hospital.
Following a complaint filed by the ambulance driver on Tuesday, a case was initiated, which gained attention after a video of the incident circulated widely on social media. Police reviewed CCTV footage, which led to the identification of one minor, who was filming the stunts on a mobile device while riding as a passenger. This information helped authorities track down the other individuals involved, and they confiscated the three motorcycles used in the incident.
The adult rider has been identified as Sadiq Pasha. When questioned, the group stated they were unaware of the ambulance’s siren. However, an officer noted that footage from the ambulance’s dashcam clearly shows the group refusing to yield and continuing to obstruct the emergency vehicle.
Authorities revealed that some of the accused are employed at a garage, while others work at a coffee vending shop and a fish market. Additionally, one of the minors is still attending school.
Investigators discovered that the motorcycles utilized in the incident were owned by the parents of the accused. Notices have been issued to the vehicle owners, who have been summoned for further questioning and potential legal repercussions.
The five minors have been presented before the Juvenile Justice Board, where they will participate in counseling as part of the legal proceedings. The case against the adult suspect is being pursued in accordance with applicable legal standards.
Authorities noted that the group acknowledged engaging in such stunts on a regular basis.
