The father of an 11-year-old girl, who tragically lost her life in Baruipur, located in the South 24 Parganas district, expressed his contentment with the ongoing police investigation on Wednesday. This statement came in the wake of the death of one of the alleged perpetrators during a police encounter.
In an interview with The Indian Express, the father remarked, “I am pleased with the investigation’s progress and the encounter involving the accused.”
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited the girl’s family on Tuesday, just two days after her lifeless body was discovered in a pond following her disappearance. To date, authorities have apprehended four suspects, including one who was killed in a police encounter late Tuesday evening.
The father expressed his gratitude for the government’s actions, stating, “I am grateful for the measures being implemented by the government. I met with the chief minister yesterday, and he assured us that we will receive justice. We have complete faith in Dada (Adhikari) and the state administration. Minister Agnimitra Paul has also been in touch, checking on our well-being. We have received overwhelming support from everyone.”
The girl’s uncle commented on the situation, saying, “We appreciate the decisive actions taken by the police and the encounter. This should deter potential offenders from committing similar crimes.”
Following his visit with the family, Chief Minister Adhikari noted that they conveyed their trust in his government’s response to the incident. He also discussed plans for financial compensation and support for the family, indicating he would return to Baruipur within a week to address their needs. “I will come back to the families in a week, and you will see the government’s efforts on their behalf. The family has requested the establishment of a police outpost in their area, and I have instructed the DGP to locate a suitable site, even if it requires renting,” he stated.
In earlier remarks, the girl’s mother raised concerns about the initial police response to her daughter’s disappearance, stating, “When we reported her missing at the Baruipur police station around 9 pm on Saturday, if the police had initiated a search immediately and reviewed CCTV footage, my daughter might have been found alive.”
