The anticipation surrounding the release of “Jana Nayagan” is finally coming to a close. International distributors for the film, which features Vijay, have been notified to prepare for a theatrical launch on July 24. The production team is expecting to receive the censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) this weekend.
Industry analyst Ramesh Bala confirmed this information to SCREEN, stating, “The censor certificate is anticipated on Saturday. International distributors have been informed ahead of time to allow for early screen bookings.” He mentioned that domestic distributors are currently being updated through unofficial channels. “Indian distributors are receiving informal updates at this point. The official announcement regarding the release date will follow once the certificate is obtained. In India, screen bookings can typically occur just two days prior to the release, so there is no immediate urgency,” Bala explained.
A regional distributor corroborated this news to SCREEN, saying, “We have been informed that July 24 is the most probable release date for ‘Jana Nayagan,’ and this time, there should be no issues with obtaining the censor certificate.”
In the meantime, numerous international distributors have begun sharing the release date on social media, signaling the end of a six-month wait for fans eager to see their favorite star in what is expected to be his final film.
York Cinemas was among the first to officially announce the date, tweeting, “Finally! Our Own Thalapathy Vijay is ready to set the big screen on fire with ‘Jana Nayagan.’ Canada Release by York Cinemas. Igniting screens from July 24.”
Several industry analysts have also started to post updates regarding the new release date. Venky Box Office, an international tracking service, announced on X, “’Jana Nayagan’ confirmation has been sent to distributors to prepare for a July 24 release.”
Directed by H Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, “Jana Nayagan” was originally intended to be Vijay’s final film before his foray into politics. However, the film’s release has been postponed multiple times, and it will now premiere after Vijay has already assumed the role of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Initially scheduled for a January 9 release, the film faced several delays primarily due to certification challenges, pushing its launch back significantly. Compounding the producers’ difficulties, an incomplete version of the film was leaked online during this period, resulting in numerous arrests.
Reports suggest that the CBFC requested a thorough re-evaluation of the film, with indications that it may receive an A certificate. “Jana Nayagan” features an ensemble cast that includes Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, and Priyamani.
