In a recent discussion with Condé Nast Traveller Middle East, renowned actress Priyanka Chopra shared her top tip for travelers: maintaining organization to ease the security screening process. She emphasized the importance of being “prepared for security checks,” particularly as frequent flying can make navigating these procedures quite tedious.
Chopra advised travelers to keep their electronics and important documents readily accessible. “Be mindful of what you need to do—like removing your shoes,” she stated. “I dislike being called back for something I could have done earlier. I take care to ensure my checked baggage complies with regulations, keeping all liquids under 100 ml and organized in zip-lock bags. This way, I can efficiently move through security.”
This practical advice resonates with many who have experienced the stress of hurriedly sorting through their belongings at airport security. To confirm the validity of her recommendations, we consulted aviation expert K Anuradha Suresh, a retired Senior AGM from Air India. She described Chopra’s guidance as “very practical.”
Suresh noted, “Most delays at security aren’t due to the checks themselves but stem from insufficient preparation. By having documents at hand, electronics easy to access, and cabin baggage orderly, travelers can alleviate stress and enhance both their own experience and the efficiency of airport security processes.”
Chopra’s straightforward advice, while seemingly obvious, can significantly streamline the travel experience for passengers, security personnel, airline staff, and fellow travelers, according to Suresh.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation’s Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) also outlines essential measures for travelers, including:
- Allowing only one checked bag and one cabin bag per passenger.
- Regulating liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs) to containers of no more than 100 ml, which must fit inside a resealable 1-quart plastic bag.
- Recommending arrival at the airport two hours before domestic flights and three to four hours before international flights.
- Implementing strict identity verification, physical screening, and X-ray examination of both carry-on and checked luggage.
