Rajesh Sharma admitted to hospital following possible insect bite on Prabhas film set: ‘Still facing risks’

Renowned actor Rajesh Sharma, celebrated for his roles in films like Khosla Ka Ghosla, Ishqiya, Special 26, and MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, has been admitted to a hospital following an insect bite incident while filming a project featuring Prabhas. The experienced actor is currently receiving care at a medical facility in Dhakuria, West Bengal.

Sudipa Chatterjee provided an update on Sharma’s condition on behalf of his family through a post on Instagram. The announcement described the circumstances leading to his hospitalization, stating, “Rajesh Sharma reportedly suffered an insect bite—likely from a bug or a venomous spider—while on location at Ramoji Film City for a film starring the acclaimed actor Prabhas. After completing the day’s shooting, he was conversing with local crew members in an area dense with vegetation when he felt the bite. Initially, he did not perceive it as serious and chose to forgo immediate medical assistance.”

However, approximately six hours later, Sharma began to experience severe pain in his right leg, and his health began to decline. “Despite his deteriorating condition, he took a flight back to Kolkata. During the flight, he developed a high fever and became increasingly agitated, with his condition worsening further. The next day, he was admitted to Manipal Hospital in Dhakuria,” the statement continued. It also noted, “It has been over a day since his admission, but he continues to suffer from a high fever, shortness of breath, and an escalating infection in his right leg.”

The family later provided information regarding his medical status, quoting Dr. Avijit Bhattacharya. “The infection has progressed from his toes to his knee, with significant blisters appearing in the affected region. Dr. Bhattacharya indicated that it is premature to draw any conclusive evaluations. Rajesh is under constant monitoring and remains in a precarious condition,” the statement elaborated. It added, “Medical professionals are closely observing him due to concerns that complications might lead to a blood clot, which could be life-threatening if it migrates to the lungs.”

The family expressed their gratitude toward the Bengal Motion Pictures Artists’ Forum, Sharma’s friends, and well-wishers, particularly Prosenjit Chatterjee, for their support. “On behalf of Rajesh Sharma’s mother and the entire family, we extend our sincere thanks to everyone who has offered their support,” the statement concluded.

The announcement did not clarify whether the incident occurred during the filming of Prabhas’ upcoming projects, either Fauji, directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, or Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Recently, Rajesh Sharma appeared in Priyadarshan’s Bhooth Bangla, featuring Akshay Kumar.
