A 12-year-old student from a residential school in Bengaluru tragically passed away under questionable circumstances on Wednesday, prompting his family to protest and claim that he was physically assaulted by teachers prior to his death.

Gurukiran, the son of Raghavendra, lived in Subedarpalya and was in the sixth grade at the institution located in Kadayarappanahalli, Bengaluru North taluk.

According to officials at the school, the young boy collapsed while jogging on the premises early that day. They notified his parents around 6 a.m. that he had fallen ill and was being transferred to a nearby hospital. By the time his family arrived at the facility, Gurukiran had already succumbed to his condition.

The Bagalur police have opened an investigation following a complaint lodged by Gurukiran’s family. A senior police official reported that the child had completed two laps of the running track before collapsing during the third. “He fell while running, and his body has been sent for a postmortem examination. The parents have raised concerns about potential foul play, and we are exploring all possible leads. Further actions will hinge on the results of the post-mortem and other evidence gathered during the inquiry,” the officer stated.

The family contends that Gurukiran was beaten with sticks and iron rods by teachers. They revealed that another student informed them about the alleged assault occurring in the hostel, and they are calling for a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

Raghavendra expressed suspicions about foul play, noting that the school’s CCTV cameras were reportedly damaged, rendering the recordings inaccessible.
