FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – On Thursday, Sri Lanka’s currency, the rupee, settled at 336.25/35 against the US dollar in the spot market, showing a slight decrease from the previous day’s closing of 336.30/40. Meanwhile, bond yields remained largely unchanged, according to market dealers.
The telegraphic transfer rates for various currencies were reported as follows: for the US dollar, the buying rate was 331.80 and the selling rate was 340.80; for the euro, the buying rate was 377.8715 and the selling rate was 391.7885; for the British pound, the buying rate was 447.7701 and the selling rate was 461.8157.
In terms of bond performance, a bond set to mature on September 15, 2027, concluded at a yield of 10.30/40 percent, a decrease from the previous yield of 10.40/50 percent. A bond maturing on December 15, 2029, also saw a decline, closing at 11.05/20 percent compared to the prior 11.10/20 percent.
Meanwhile, a bond due on May 15, 2030, held steady at 11.40/50 percent. In contrast, a bond maturing on August 1, 2030, increased slightly to 11.50/58 percent from 11.50/55 percent. A bond set to mature on October 15, 2030, rose to 11.60/63 percent, up from 11.56/60 percent.
Lastly, a bond maturing on June 15, 2034, saw an increase in yield, closing at 12.10/15 percent, up from 12.05/10 percent, while a bond due on July 1, 2037, finished at 12.60/70 percent, a rise from the previous 12.55/60 percent. (Colombo/Jul16/2026)
