CBSL Imposes Rs. 14.6 Million in Fines on 11 Companies for Regulatory Violations

Under the authority granted by Section 19 (1) in conjunction with Section 19 (2) of the Financial Transactions Reporting Act, No. 6 of 2006 (FTRA), financial penalties are enforced on institutions that fail to comply with the act’s stipulations. The FTRA allows for the determination of penalties by considering the severity and nature of the institutions’ non-compliance.

In its role as Sri Lanka’s regulatory body for Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT), the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) has collected penalties totaling Fourteen Million Six Hundred Thousand Rupees (Rs. 14,600,000) from October 2025 to March 2026. This initiative aims to ensure that institutions adhere to compliance requirements. The collected penalties have been deposited into the Consolidated Fund.

For further information, details regarding the administrative penalties imposed by the Financial Intelligence Unit on reporting institutions during the specified period can be found in the associated report.
