The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) experienced a downturn for the third consecutive session today, with the All Share Price Index (ASPI) concluding lower. However, this decline was accompanied by a notable increase in market turnover, which reached its highest level in recent days, largely due to significant transactions involving shares of Cargills (Ceylon) PLC.
The overall market turnover hit Rs. 3.27 billion, with Cargills (Ceylon) leading the trading volume, recording crossings totaling Rs. 2.26 billion. Additionally, the regular market saw trades worth Rs. 62 million for this stock, bringing its total turnover for the day to Rs. 2.88 billion.
Melstacorp PLC was the second-largest contributor to market turnover, with shares valued at Rs. 181 million being traded.
In terms of market performance, the ASPI dropped by 62.37 points, closing at 21,145.73, marking its third straight daily decline. Conversely, the S&P SL20 index experienced a slight increase, rising by 1.79 points to finish at 5,945.01.
