A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with the murder of his mother and the attempted murder of his sister following a tragic incident of domestic violence at their residence in southeastern Perth.

Authorities established two crime scenes after discovering the body of the 35-year-old woman at a home on Mills Street in Bentley around 6:15 AM yesterday. Meanwhile, a 12-year-old girl was located injured approximately 600 meters away on Albany Highway in Cannington.

After detaining the teenager at the family home, police have formally charged him with the alleged stabbing murder of his mother and the attempted unlawful killing of his sister. He is scheduled to appear in Perth Children’s Court today.

Due to legal restrictions, the ABC is unable to disclose the identities of the alleged perpetrator and victims. During a press briefing on Tuesday, Acting Inspector Jessica Securo of the Western Australia Police reported that the girl managed to escape the house and contact authorities after also being allegedly stabbed by her brother.

“While the investigation is still in its early phases, we are treating this as a suspected family violence homicide, and the homicide squad is leading the inquiry,” Inspector Securo stated.

The girl is currently in serious but stable condition at Perth Children’s Hospital, where she is receiving necessary medical care and support. Police have announced that their investigation is ongoing and have urged anyone with relevant information about the case to reach out to Crime Stoppers.

Inspector Securo also indicated that authorities would review any previous interactions the family may have had with law enforcement.
