The case involving Federal Labor MP Luke Gosling is set to be transferred to the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP) in light of potential conflicts of interest with the Northern Territory Director of Public Prosecutions (NT DPP).

Mr. Gosling, who has represented the Solomon electorate since 2016, is facing two assault charges related to incidents involving Northern Territory Administrator David Connolly. The administrator holds a position similar to that of a state governor.

These charges stem from occurrences at the NT Thailand Grand Festival on July 18, one of which allegedly involved Mr. Gosling elbowing Mr. Connolly. During a recent court session at the Darwin Local Court, adjustments were made to Mr. Gosling’s bail conditions, and the prosecution was led by a senior attorney from the NT Police Force.

In a statement issued today, the NT DPP explained that they received documentation concerning the case from NT Police, but after careful consideration, they decided to refer the matter to another jurisdiction to eliminate any perceived conflicts of interest.

The NT DPP confirmed that arrangements are underway for the Commonwealth DPP to assume responsibility for the prosecution. However, the statement did not provide further details regarding the specific nature of the perceived conflict.

The case is scheduled to be revisited in court on September 30.
