On Sunday, local time, law enforcement officials apprehended an armed individual at President Donald Trump’s golf course in Los Angeles. This incident occurred just two days prior to a scheduled fundraising event, during which the man appeared to be observing security measures, according to authorities.
Jeanine John Taele, aged 38, was found taking photographs and videos while carrying a magazine containing 16 rounds of ammunition in his pocket. Additionally, police discovered a loaded firearm inside his vehicle.
Following the arrest, officers conducted a search of Taele’s residence in Downey, a nearby city, on Monday. They uncovered a significant cache of firearms, ammunition, magazines, body armor, and notebooks that contained “concerning statements.”
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department disclosed Taele’s arrest as preparations were underway for a Republican National Committee fundraising dinner at the Trump National Golf Course, located in Rancho Palos Verdes, just south of Los Angeles. The details regarding the contents of the notebooks and whether there was any intent to harm the president or disrupt the event were not provided by law enforcement.
Taele faces multiple felony charges, including second-degree robbery, possession of a large-capacity magazine, and illegal possession of a short-barreled rifle or shotgun. He is also charged with a misdemeanor for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and has been ordered to refrain from accessing the golf course or possessing any firearms. His bail has been set at $250,000.
At this time, it remains unclear whether Taele has legal representation, and attempts to reach family members for comments have been unsuccessful. The sheriff’s department indicated that upon their initial interaction with Taele, they discovered he was under investigation by the El Segundo Police Department for robbery.
Officials from the sheriff’s department assured the public that there is “no credible threat to our communities.” It is worth noting that in 2025, a jury convicted an individual for an assassination attempt against President Trump at his country club in Florida.
