The recent mention of Jimmy Cricket taking over the airplane intercom (Letters, 5 August) brought back fond memories of a unique train journey I experienced. In 2008, I embarked on a trip from Runcorn station to attend a conference in London.

As we neared our first stop in Birmingham, I, along with the other passengers, was astonished when Ozzy Osbourne’s voice echoed through the train’s intercom to make announcements. As the journey continued, we were treated to George W. Bush, the former President of the United States, who provided information about the buffet car. Additionally, Boris Johnson, at the time the Mayor of London, shared details about our arrival at Euston station.

Just as we were pulling into the station, the familiar voice of Jon Culshaw from the BBC Radio 4 program Dead Ringers came on to inform us that the train guard had been passing the microphone to him throughout the trip, adding a touch of humor to our travel experience.
