Josh Fraser has officially declared his candidacy for the position of full-time head coach of the Carlton Football Club.
Since taking on the role of interim coach in May, Fraser has guided the team to an impressive record of 10 victories in 12 matches. He is scheduled to present his case to the club’s coaching panel on Wednesday, seeking to secure the permanent coaching position.
Fraser’s appointment as interim coach followed the departure of Michael Voss from the club. His successful tenure has placed Carlton in a strong position, potentially leading them to an unexpected finals appearance.
Despite demonstrating his capabilities through his performance, Fraser must formally pitch his vision to the coaching panel during Wednesday’s meeting.

Other candidates for the coaching role include untested assistants Jaymie Graham from Fremantle, Corey Enright from St Kilda, and James Kelly from Geelong, but Fraser only recently stepped forward as a candidate.
“A couple of weeks ago, the club approached me about being part of this coaching search,” Fraser shared. “This week, I had the chance to officially accept that opportunity and present to the coaching panel.”
During his initial press conference after replacing Voss, Fraser had expressed a lack of interest in continuing as Carlton’s coach beyond the current season. However, following a successful 12-week period and the support of enthusiastic fans, he felt compelled to pursue the opportunity.
“I have always been eager to become a senior coach,” Fraser remarked. “This experience has allowed me to refine my thoughts and gain exposure to the role in a way that is not typically available. It’s something that has been solidifying in my mind.”
Fraser expressed confidence in his readiness to take on the responsibilities of a senior coach, noting that there are only 19 such positions available in the AFL. “I share the excitement that our Carlton supporters feel about this group,” he added.
Excited Carlton fans were heard chanting “we want Fraser” as the team decisively defeated St Kilda on Sunday night, positioning themselves favorably for a wildcard round spot. A win against the Western Bulldogs, who will be missing their star captain Marcus Bontempelli this Sunday, would secure their placement in the top ten.

I am thankful for the immense support I have received,” he concluded.
