Johnny Young, the esteemed host of the television program Young Talent Time, has passed away at the age of 79 after a short fight with pancreatic cancer.

In a statement, his family shared their sorrow, noting, “Johnny was the creator, host, and producer of the beloved show Young Talent Time.”

Throughout his career, Young was responsible for writing and producing several memorable songs, such as “The Real Thing” and “Smiley.”

Young Talent Time, which aired from 1971 to 1988, played a significant role in the careers of numerous Australian artists, including Dannii Minogue and Tina Arena. The show concluded each episode with a rendition of The Beatles’ “All My Loving.”

In recognition of his contributions to the music industry, Young was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2010. During the induction ceremony, Tina Arena paid homage to him by performing one of his songs, “Here Comes The Star,” and referred to him as “like a father” for his unwavering support in developing her talent on Young Talent Time.

“He’s a wonderful man, and I’ve always acknowledged that he is the reason I am still active in the industry 30 years later,” she remarked at the event.

Prior to his role on Young Talent Time, Young had a successful career as a singer, achieving an Australian number one hit with “Step Back.” He was also the host of The Go!! Show during the 1960s, taking over after Ian Turpie stepped down. In 1967, Young received a Logie Award for Best Teenage Personality for his work on that program.

Young is survived by his wife Marisha, his sister Cornelia, daughters Anna and Fleur, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He also had a son, Craig, who has since passed away.

The family has requested privacy during this difficult time and will soon provide information regarding a memorial service.
