A Dutch organization specializing in drug addiction and mental health issues issued a grave warning on Friday regarding ecstasy pills designed to resemble the head of former President Trump, which may pose serious health risks.
The Trimbos Institute, a reputable entity in this field, reported that multiple instances of these pills have been submitted at various testing centers that assess substances for users prior to consumption.
In a “Red Alert” disseminated via its website and social media platforms, the institute highlighted that these pills contain a dangerous level of a substance known as PMMA (para-methoxymethamphetamine). This chemical bears resemblance to MDMA, the primary ingredient found in ecstasy.
The institute emphasized that the presence of PMMA indicates contamination in the ecstasy pills, which could potentially be fatal. Users may not experience the drug’s effects immediately, leading them to mistakenly consume a larger quantity, thereby increasing the risk of overheating, seizures, loss of consciousness, or cardiovascular issues.
They also shared images of the pills, which feature a likeness of Trump’s head on one side, and the inscriptions “NL” and “Trump” on the opposite side, divided by a vertical line. The pills are identified in two colors: one with a green face and another in yellow.
While the production, distribution, and consumption of ecstasy are prohibited in the Netherlands, the drug remains popular, especially in nightlife settings such as clubs and music festivals. A government survey from 2024 indicated that approximately 550,000 individuals had used the drug within a year.
The Trimbos Institute conducts drug testing through a national framework comprising 12 participants and 34 testing facilities across the Netherlands.
