Authorities have apprehended five individuals on suspicion of murder following the tragic death of a newborn girl from stab wounds in Sheffield this past Sunday.

Officers discovered the infant while responding to concerns regarding her welfare at a residence in Holywell Heights, located in the Wincobank region of Sheffield, shortly before 6 a.m. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initially, seven suspects were taken into custody on murder charges, but two have since been released on bail. According to a postmortem examination conducted on Tuesday, the cause of death was determined to be stab wounds.

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward from South Yorkshire police stated that the tragic incident has profoundly impacted the first responders, paramedics, and detectives involved in the ongoing murder inquiry.

As of Tuesday, five suspects remain in custody after police secured a warrant for their continued detention, while a 26-year-old and a 37-year-old have been released on bail.
