The relatives of a man from Perth, who has gone missing in Nepal, are clinging to hope for a “miracle” that he will be discovered safe and sound.

Luke Costanzo, aged 30, was engaged in a pilgrimage trek to Mount Kailash with the Isha Foundation, a non-profit spiritual organization.

Tragically, the region has witnessed over 1,000 fatalities due to landslides and flash floods, with approximately 4,400 individuals still unaccounted for following the disaster.

On Tuesday, Mr. Costanzo’s family issued a statement confirming that he is among the Australians who are currently missing in Nepal. They expressed their sorrow, stating, “With heavy hearts, we announce that our beloved son and brother, Luke Costanzo, is still unaccounted for in Nepal after last week’s flooding catastrophe.”

They described Luke as a strong, compassionate, disciplined, and spiritually inclined individual, adding, “Once he commits to a decision, he does so wholeheartedly, and he was thrilled about his pilgrimage to Mount Kailash.”

The family mentioned that the last communication they received from Luke was at the Gyirong port border crossing, where his group was on their way back to Kathmandu during the final leg of their trek.

In their statement, they acknowledged the immense challenge of the situation and requested that the media honor their need for privacy during this trying time. “We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love and support from friends and family and ask everyone to keep Luke, along with all those affected, in their thoughts and prayers,” they said.

They concluded by expressing their hope for a miracle, stating, “We can only continue to hope that Luke, along with others who remain missing, will be found safe and well.
