In a significant development, officers from the Australian Federal Police conducted a search at the residence of a former high-ranking member of the militant construction union, as they continue their investigation into corruption within Victoria’s building sector.

This morning, a contingent of at least six officers, accompanied by a sniffer dog, arrived at the home of John Perkovic in Keilor, located in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. The authorities were observed examining various items in the backyard and inspecting a black Range Rover SUV parked in the driveway.

Shortly after the police operation commenced, Mr. Perkovic exited the property.

Mr. Perkovic served as an organizer for the Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) for over ten years, during a period when the union was headed by John Setka. Following the union’s administration in 2024, which was prompted by serious allegations of misconduct, Perkovic was elevated to the position of second-in-command. However, he was relieved of his duties in October 2025 after media reports surfaced detailing allegations of corruption against him.
