Photographer Kieran Dodds has embarked on an extensive project capturing the essence of individuals with red hair across the United States from 2024 to 2026. This endeavor involved conducting interviews and creating portraits of hundreds of people from diverse backgrounds and heritages. At the conclusion of each interview, Dodds posed a thought-provoking question to his subjects: “What unites the states?” The responses he gathered provide insight into the collective experiences of those he photographed.

Dodds emphasizes that while the majority of his subjects share the characteristic of having red hair, the focus of his project extends beyond mere physical appearance. He aims to explore the recurring themes and ideas that emerged during his conversations with the individuals he portrayed, reflecting on these insights throughout his travels in the country.
