In anticipation of upcoming protests organized by the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) regarding statehood, security measures have been enhanced around the BJP offices in Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP has scheduled a ‘Secretariat Gherao’ for Wednesday to address issues related to recruitment and job opportunities. In response, the National Conference has arranged a counter-demonstration, announcing on Tuesday their intention to peacefully gherao BJP offices in both Srinagar and Jammu. They aim to demand accountability for promises made by the Union government in Parliament and before the Supreme Court concerning Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is expected to deliberate today on a remission application submitted by Ravindra Pal, also known as Dara Singh, who is currently serving a life sentence for the 1999 homicide of Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two young sons in Odisha. In July, the court had instructed the Odisha government to make a decision on Singh’s plea for remission within a month.
In a tragic incident on Tuesday evening, three young men, aged between 22 and 25, drowned in Sanjay Lake, located near Kotla Gaon in the Pandav Nagar area of East Delhi, according to police reports. A call to the police control room was made around 7:30 PM, prompting a swift response from a police team that arrived at the scene and managed to retrieve the individuals from the water. Unfortunately, they were found unresponsive and were subsequently transported to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where medico-legal procedures are currently being conducted.
Additionally, a 60-year-old man was discovered dead under suspicious circumstances at his home in Rohini Sector 3, with police suspecting a potential robbery. The scene was described as chaotic, with household items disarranged throughout the property. Authorities have detained a female relative of the deceased along with two of her associates for questioning. The body of the victim has been sent for a post-mortem examination, while investigations are ongoing, including a review of CCTV footage.
