On Wednesday, India strongly condemned the alleged destruction of a Hindu temple located in the Narowal district of Pakistan, urging the Pakistani government to swiftly investigate the matter and ensure that those accountable are brought to justice.
The Indian government emphasized that Pakistan must take prompt action to repair the damaged temple and meet its fundamental responsibility to protect the safety, security, and welfare of all minority groups and their cultural legacies.
Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, expressed serious concern over the troubling reports regarding the devastation of a historic Hindu temple in the village of Siraj, Narowal. He described the act of vandalism against this century-old place of worship as unacceptable.
Jaiswal noted that the apparent indifference of authorities and their inability to safeguard such an important temple is deeply troubling. He remarked that these incidents serve as a “stark reminder” of the persistent risks faced by minority communities in Pakistan and the severe breaches of their religious freedoms and sacred sites.
He called on the Pakistani authorities to carry out a swift and transparent inquiry into the incident and ensure that those responsible face appropriate consequences. Moreover, Jaiswal insisted that the Pakistani government must take urgent steps to restore the desecrated temple and fulfill its essential obligation to protect the rights and cultural heritage of all minority citizens.
