Kunal Kemmu has successfully enlisted the renowned veteran actress Sharmila Tagore, who also happens to be his mother-in-law, for his upcoming directorial venture titled Vibe. This marks Kunal’s second film following Madgaon Express. The comedic film also stars Preity Zinta alongside Sparsh Shrivastava and newcomer Vanshika Dhir. The trailer for Vibe was unveiled in Mumbai on Wednesday.
During the trailer launch, Kunal was questioned about how he came to involve his mother-in-law in the project. The multi-talented writer, director, and actor described the moment as a spontaneous decision. “I approached her with the offer for a cameo role, and she asked for a synopsis of the film. After I provided the details, she revealed it was merely a trick question; she was always going to accept the role. I am grateful for her willingness,” Kunal recounted.
He expressed that directing Sharmila Tagore was a personal aspiration of his. “This is one of those dreams that I’ve now ticked off my list, something I never anticipated would happen. I feel immensely proud to have called ‘action’ and ‘cut’ while working with a legend like her,” Kunal stated.
Soha Ali Khan, Kunal’s wife, was also in attendance at the launch to show her support for both her husband and the film. She highlighted Kunal’s sense of humor, saying, “Whether it’s a wedding or a funeral, Kunal will always make you laugh. He’s the funniest person in both our families.”
Preity Zinta, who portrays a serious role in Vibe, shared her positive experience on set but had a light-hearted complaint regarding the script. “Working on this project was enjoyable, but I wish Kunal had given me more comedic scenes. We don’t laugh much while filming a comedy, and I had to maintain a serious demeanor. I hold this against Kunal. The shoot was quite demanding, often lasting 16 to 18 hours a day,” she explained.
Preity also praised Kunal and Sparsh Shrivastava for their dedication and sincerity in their performances. In addition to Kunal, Sparsh, and Preity, the film features Yashpal Sharma and Bhojpuri star Dinesh Lal Yadav. Produced by Chirag Nihalani, the son of the late Pahlaj Nihalani, Vibe is scheduled to hit theaters on September 18.
